The Thunderbolt Display consolidated everything Apple had learned about external monitors into one product — a 27-inch 2560×1440 IPS panel with a Thunderbolt port that could daisy-chain up to six devices, a built-in FaceTime camera, MagSafe charging passthrough, USB, FireWire, Ethernet, and speakers. A single cable connected a MacBook to power, peripherals, and a large display simultaneously. Apple discontinued it in 2016 without a direct replacement, leaving a gap in its lineup that frustrated professional users for years.
