The AppleDesign Keyboard was Apple's transition product as it moved away from the mechanical switches of the Extended Keyboard era toward the softer, quieter membrane keyboards of the 1990s. Released in 1993, it was the keyboard that shipped with the LC and Performa lines — functional and inoffensive, if conspicuously less satisfying than what it replaced. It marked the point at which Apple stopped competing on keyboard quality.
