The Power Mac 6400 and 6500 series were Apple's consumer towers — sold through dealers and eventually the company's own retail channel as affordable alternatives to the professional 7xxx and 9xxx machines. The 6400 and 6500 were among the most widely deployed Macs in North American homes in 1996–1997, bundled with monitors and software as all-in-one consumer computing packages.
