The 660AV added real-time audio and video capabilities to the Quadra line — a dedicated DSP chip handled telephony, voice recognition, and video capture at a time when those functions required separate expansion cards. It shared the compact desktop case of the 610 and shipped the same month as the more powerful 840AV. Together, the AV Macs previewed a future where computers could process multimedia without special hardware.
