The most powerful 68040 Mac ever shipped, and the last significant 68k workstation before Apple's transition to PowerPC. The 840AV added a DSP chip capable of real-time audio processing, voice recognition, and video capture at a time when those features required dedicated hardware. At 40 MHz with AV capabilities, it was Apple's answer to the professional workstation market — and a preview of where computing was going.
