Macintosh XL
Compacts1985Very Rare
Apple's attempt to rescue the Lisa by rebranding it as the Macintosh XL — a Mac with a larger screen and more storage, sold at a reduced price to clear inventory. MacWorks software let it run Mac applications, but the underlying hardware was still Lisa hardware: slower than the Mac II, incompatible with standard Mac expansion. Apple discontinued it in April 1985 and buried thousands of unsold units in a Utah landfill.
